Frequently Asked Questions

How does the resolution process work?
Resolutions are developed by member communities and debated at the Annual Convention. Once approved by the membership as a whole, they are forwarded to the UBCM, FCM, other levels of government, and other organizations who may be working on the same issues. Responses from these agencies are published on this website as they are received.

What does the NCMA do?
We work on issues which impact British Columbia’s northern economy, its environment, and/or the social well being of its people. Once issues are identified, they are researched and information is circulated on identified concerns. Workshops and information sessions are developed for the membership when needed. Resolutions are formulated and presented to the UBCM for further discussion and issues are taken directly to senior levels of government.

Where can I find out about NCMA resolutions?
The NCMA maintains an online searchable database of current resolutions. Click the Resolutions link under the Documents section on the left sidebar to view the resolutions.

Who decides what issues the Association will work on?
The membership. Issues are forwarded from the membership to the Executive, in the form of a resolution, verbally, or in writing. The Executive then looks at the issue to decide whether it is regional in scope, or should be dealt with at a local level.
